The strangest driving advice of the year is here - tie a blue ribbon to your rear-view mirror and sprinkle the interior with sea-salt. So says international feng shui expert Raymond Catchpole in a new report.

The study, commissioned by insurers Aon Private Clients, is the first ever to study the application of the ancient Chinese art to motoring. It looked for measures that, according to the principles of feng shui, improve the flow of energy in vehicles and help drivers "alleviate the negative feelings which lead to road rage".

The report also suggests not parking your car facing your home, as cars are 'predatory tigers' and when parked towards a house or office, they create a threat to the occupants of the building.

Other suggestions include: removing clutter from the car to 'help chi energy flow'; sing, clap your hands or play music to 'clear your personal space' inside the car; keep the windows clean 'to allow energy to flow in' and keep a bottle of water in the car - for the same reason as the blue ribbon - that water promotes a clear, flowing and thoughtful state of mind.

The report examines some makes of car too, most memorably describing the Porsche Boxster as "a feminine...unaggressive vehicle, an ideal drive for a happy and single architect". Perhaps not the most accurate description of the typical Porker petrolhead.
