SV-R Supercar, Ex-Race, Rally and Concept Cars Star in 25 March MG Sports & Racing Auction

It’s not every day you can buy a MG Prototype SV supercar, a 765 bhp, 225mph MG Rover 75 estate or an ex-Gwyndaf Evans works MG Super 1600 rally car. But now it’s all possible at the sale of MG Sport and Racing Ltd (MG S & R) in administration, the motor sport arm of MG Rover.

One of the final chapters in the British car maker’s history is being auctioned by Wyles Hardy & Co on the 25 March at Groveley Lane, Birmingham B31 4PT, (the site next to the Longbridge factory) on behalf of administrators. If you can’t attend on the day Wyles Hardy has set up a live webcast, allowing you to bid online for any of the hundreds of lots up for sale.

Wyles Hardy has an enviable reputation in the sale of ex-racing and classic car collections being responsible for auctioning off the Simtek F1 team and the assets of the TWR Group, including the legendary Silk Cut Jaguars.

If you are interested in buying the ex-Gwyndaf Evans rally car, expect to pay between £32-38,000 for it, while the heavily modified 765bhp Rover 75 ZT-T, which competed in the Bonneville Salt Flats Speed trials is likely to fetch around £20,000

Also in the sale is the MGTF ‘500’, a unique Cosworth engined track car (guide price £20-25000), plus a one-off ZT V8 480bhp Belcup Endurance Race Car, the last race car to be built by the Sports and Racing Division (£30-40,000)

Proof of other projects MG S & R was involved in prior to the appointment of the administrators, include a concept V8 MG ZT destined for the DTM German touring car series (£10-14,000) and the XPOWER SV series coupe, two examples of which are in the sale (£ 40-£65000). The SV was the last road going sports car to have been built by MG S & R.

Many other MG Rover rally and track cars are also going under the hammer, most of which are capable of getting a motor sport enthusiast up and running to rally or race for an outlay of just a few thousand pounds.

Anyone who wants a piece of MG Rover motorsport history should think about attending the auction. Hundreds of lots, from motor show concept cars to memorabilia are being auctioned - you can even buy engine, suspension and bodywork components to modify your road going MG Rover.

"This auction provides a historic opportunity for motoring enthusiasts to buy some very unique cars," said Matt Hardy, managing director of Wyles Hardy.

"The lots will make anything from a few pounds to tens of thousands, giving everybody from the MG Rover enthusiast to a serious car collector something to bid for," he added.
