Audi and the Fraunhofer IIS Institute present NewsService Journaline live for the first time in a car
Together with the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits (IIS), Audi will be presenting the realisation of NewsService Journaline with live reception in a car at CeBIT, which will take place from 15 to 21 March 2007. A complete transmission chain for the news service via digital radio DAB will be demonstrated for the first time at stand B 36 in Hall 9. A receiver in the vehicle and the new “Fraunhofer Multimedia DataServer”, which automatically compiles the content for NewsService Journaline and broadcasts it via DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting), enables customised, textual news information to be provided.
The Audi news service provides users with continuously updated information in the form of video text for the radio. Via the Audi MMI (Multi Media Interface), the driver can select thematically categorised information by means of the simple menu structure. The speech reproduction “text to speech” feature enables the practical display of continuously updated news texts which can be tailored to the driver’s wishes as required. Topics which the user is particularly interested in can be saved as favourites for immediate access.

The longer news texts and information in the form of automatically updated ticker announcements are very varied and include, for example, current news items or radio programmes.

The news content for CeBIT will be made available by ARD Text, NDR North German Radio, the Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper, the Deutsche Welle International Broadcast Service and AUDI AG.

Audi has been demonstrating its pioneering role in the field of innovative DAB broadcasting technology since 2005. Digital radio enables reception of a wide range of programmes with a sound quality virtually on a par with CDs. DAB can currently be ordered for the Audi A5/S5, A6/S6 A8/S8 and Audi Q7, and is for instance already featured in every third A8 car in Germany.
