At the Essen Motor Show from 1 to 10 December, Audi is presenting its R8 mid-engined sports car and its new TT Roadster – just two days after making its world debut in Los Angeles. The Audi S3 is celebrating its German debut at the Audi stand. New Audi Genuine Accessories packages are available for the TT Coupé and the Audi Q7. The “Audi exclusive” customisation programme and the “Audi lifestyle articles” from quattro GmbH will also be on show. An attractive feature for motorsport fans is the chance to admire the Audi R10 TDI racing car at the Audi stand.

Sheer fascination – the Audi R8 mid-engined sports car

The Audi R8 is a fascinating driving machine and the sporty spearhead of the Audi brand. The mid-mounted 420 bhp V8 FSI mid-engine, quattro permanent four-wheel drive and Audi Space Frame aluminium body form the basis for truly outstanding driving dynamics.

As the first Audi mid-engined sports car, the R8 combines Audi’s experience gleaned from numerous motorsport triumphs with groundbreaking design and the technological expertise of the brand. This expertise has led to the slogan ‘Vorsprung durch Technik’ becoming a byword for leading-edge technology both on the race track and the road.

The driving performance of the Audi R8 is extremely impressive. It sprints from a standstill to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds, reaching a top speed of 301 km/h. It is now possible to pre-order the Audi R8, with the first shipments due in the first six months of 2007. The basic price is € 104,400.

Outstanding sportiness – the Audi TT Roadster S line

The Audi TT Roadster sporting the S line equipment package is set to celebrate its European debut in Essen. Two highly attractive S line packages from quattro GmbH will also be available immediately from launch. Both comprise numerous visually attractive and functional optional extras, which add additional sporty nuances in terms of driveability and design. The new TT Roadster is available with two engine versions: the 2.0 TFSI, which combines turbocharging with petrol direct injection, and which drives the front wheels with 147 kW (200 bhp), plus the 3.2 l V6 with 184 kW (250 bhp) and quattro permanent four-wheel drive. Both model variants can be ordered with the innovative S tronic dual-clutch gearbox as an alternative to the standard six-speed manual shift.

To ensure even more agile handling, the S line sports package from quattro GmbH combines a sports suspension with 10 mm lower ride height and 18-inch alloy wheels of 5-spoke design. By way of an option, it is also possible to order 19-inch alloy wheels of either 20-spoke or 7 twin-spoke design. As regards the interior, sports seats ensure optimum side restraint. A shortened gear lever reduces the gear lever travel in the manual version. The sports package also includes the S line leather sports steering wheel, the extended aluminium look for the interior and the S line logo on the door sill trims and front wings. The S line exterior package, optionally available with carbon elements, adds the finishing touch to the sporty design of the Audi TT.

The S line sports package and S line exterior package are available both for the 2.0 TFSI and for the 3.2 V6 quattro, and can also be combined with each other. The prices: from € 1,800 (sports package) and € 1,300 (exterior package).

Dynamism and driving pleasure – the Audi S3

Dynamism, sportiness and sophistication – the Audi A3 occupies an outstanding position in the premium compact class. Its top variant, the new Audi S3 with an output of 195 kW (265 bhp) and quattro permanent four-wheel drive, is celebrating its German debut at the Essen Motor Show. With its powerful performance – which enables it to sprint to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds, and only being governed at 250 km/h – it follows the ideal of out-and-out driving pleasure coupled with a high level of everyday suitability, like all S models from Audi.

The power is transmitted by the six-speed gearbox and quattro permanent four-wheel drive to large alloy wheels with an 18-inch diameter. The new sports suspension on the S3 permits an extremely sporty driving style combined with optimum comfort. This sporty compact car responds actively to steering movements, exhibits precise and safe handling characteristics and, thanks to quattro technology, permits maximum acceleration out of bends.

The dynamic potential of this three-door sports car is obvious at first glance. The single-frame grille features chrome trim, the front apron has a spoiler with large air inlets and the side sills have been restyled. There is a contrasting platinum grey diffuser built into the rear apron, along with two S-style oval chrome tailpipes on the left. Aluminium-look exterior mirrors and a body-coloured roof spoiler give added impact to the visual statement.

Enhanced driving pleasure, comfort and safety – Audi Genuine Accessories

The Audi brand’s premium credentials are also reflected in the accessories it offers. Even before a vehicle appears on the market, the Audi Genuine Accessories are developed, tested and matched up in parallel with the vehicle. As a result, the quality and functionality typical of Audi is ensured down to the very last detail. It is possible to choose from a broad range composed of five product families – namely, sport and design, communication, transport, family, protection and comfort.

Whether it is sporty cast aluminium wheels, high-tech multimedia solutions or practical transport facilities – Audi Genuine Accessories offer extra individual mobility, whilst ensuring enhanced driving pleasure, comfort and safety.

A new product in the Audi Genuine Accessories range is the style package for the TT Coupé. This aerodynamic body kit consisting of a front apron, rear diffuser, side sills and a fixed rear lid spoiler underscores the fascinating shapes of the TT Coupé.

The proverbial attention to detail is underscored by the front apron and the rear diffuser made from rigid integral skim foam. Additional visual impact is added to the vehicle’s tail end by the build-in and, as such, constantly visible rear lid spoiler. It replaces the standard, electrically extending spoiler.

Entirely new products for the Audi Q7 are the new off-road style packages, which can be ordered when purchasing a new car. This means that all the accessories are already fitted when customers take delivery of their vehicle. They are also available from every Audi dealer as an individual retrofit solution.

Fitting the new packages brings out the off-road streak in this all-round talent. The accessories accentuate the striking visual appearance on the one hand, whilst enhancing the protection when driving in off-road conditions on the other.

The complete off-road style package comprises the following: front protection strips, wheel arch extensions, front and rear apron each with an integral stainless steel underbody guard, running boards with rubber pads, door strips and stainless-steel tailpipes.

The style package for the Audi A3 Sportback is already a classic in the Audi Genuine Accessories range. It comprises a front apron, a set of side sills, a rear apron and a roof spoiler, all of which are painted in the body colour. The individual add-on parts emphasise the striking styling of the vehicle and convey a sense of individuality and sheer dynamism.

In addition, Audi Genuine Accessories also offer numerous products that accentuate and further enhance the driving comfort. These include for instance transport solutions for bicycles, skis, snowboards or kayaks – which not only fit precisely, but are also easy to fit. Also in terms of multimedia, Audi drivers can choose from high-tech solutions adapted to the vehicle’s electronics, e.g., with an adapter for an iPod or an Audi genuine mobile phone adapter for the mobile telephone preparation ex works.

Audi exclusive: customisation with premium flair

The “Audi exclusive” customisation programme gives the vehicle a character all of its own. quattro GmbH enables the customer to have their vehicle customised to reflect their personal preferences and tastes precisely. They can choose from pre-configured packages – Audi exclusive line – or from the extensive Audi exclusive customisation programme.

quattro GmbH offers an extensive range of options for customising a car’s interior. Customers can choose from 12 different leather colours, available in the two leather grades Valcona and Fine Nappa, plus Alcantara in nine colour versions. All leather packages moreover come with a free choice of the colour of the stitching. To match the leather, the inlays on the instrument panel, centre console and doors can be given an individual touch with fine-wood appointments. Every wood is sanded by hand, then stained, varnished and polished – a process almost as intricate as crafting a violin.

Special paint finishes for the body can be ordered in practically any colour requested, provided the paint can be produced on a water-soluble basis to ensure its environmental compatibility. Customised paint finishes, tinted windows and a “black” styling package can also be ordered for the exterior. The office packages for the Audi A8 round off the customisation programme.

In conjunction with the customised body colours, the Audi exclusive range of alloy wheels provides an extra touch of individuality for the car’s external appearance.

Audi lifestyle articles: a touch of individuality for individualists

There is increasing demand among Audi customers for greater individuality. To them, Audi lifestyle articles represent a special outlook on life that goes beyond the extensive Audi model range. The range of Audi lifestyle articles is divided into four collections aimed at different target groups: Audi design, Audi collection, Audi tradition and Audi miniatures.

Audi design collection – this comprises sophisticated, distinctive products that reflect the Audi brand’s design standards to a particular degree in this small but thoroughly exclusive collection, thanks to the stylish use of materials and finishes, attention to detail, technically accomplished execution and interpretation of shapes and surfaces in typical Audi style. Take for instance the Audi design Square chronograph, the outcome of a partnership with Sinn Spezialuhren GmbH.

The “Audi collection” range comprises products sporting the four-ring badge and emphasising the sporty brand essence. They infuse everyday life with the emotional appeal characteristic of Audi. The watches, sunglasses, leather goods, luggage, clothing and toys are characterised by their modern design. A part of this is the new small leather collection, comprising 31 items.

The traditional products featured in the Audi collection are reminiscent of the illustrious history of the Audi brand. As well as exclusive leather goods made from distinctive leather tanned using plant-based tanning agents, sophisticated textiles and selected collector’s items, this range brings together a number of memorabilia that evoke the history of Audi. Famous product names such as DKW, Horch, Wanderer and NSU point to those brands in which Auto Union and then AUDI AG had their historical roots.

A separate “Audi Miniatures” model car brochure features historic, racing and production vehicles in the traditional sizes and in a wide range of colours. Their authentic appeal is vividly evoked – whether as desktop ornaments or in the showcase of the out-and-out collector.

Motorsport at the Audi stand

Motorsport enthusiasts also get their money’s worth at the Audi stand. The powerful 478 kW (650 bhp) Audi R10 TDI, which became the first-ever diesel-powered car to win the classic Le Mans 24 Hours endurance race and thus wrote motorsporting history, will also be on show, as will the Audi A4 DTM driven by Tom Kristensen. The Audi R10 TDI with its awesomely powerful V12 TDI featuring two VTG turbochargers and high-pressure piezo common rail fuel injection can lay claim to an impressive track record – crossing the finishing line in first place in all eight of its previous races.
