Audi is principal sponsor of 2007 art project
This summer on the island of Mainau on Lake Constance is set to be a summer of internationally renowned art and culture. Stefan Szczesny is transforming this island of flowers into a total work of art, with “The island of Mainau: Szczesny 2007 – The dream of an earthly paradise” as its motto. Top events such as the Royal Dinner held by the Mentor Foundation International are among the social highlights which will be taking place into the autumn. AUDI AG, which enjoys a tradition of strong cultural commitment, is the principal sponsor of this summer of culture 2007.
“For Audi, promoting culture is the key to success, for keeping ahead and producing innovations,” explains Hans-Joachim Radde, Head of Marketing Germany at AUDI AG. “Audi doesn’t just take on technical and economic challenges, it also plays a pioneering role in the field of culture.”
Under the sponsorship of AUDI AG, the island of Mainau on Lake Constance is being transformed into an impressive art park. Stefan Szczesny is creating numerous sculptures, paintings, ceramics and mosaics to adorn the island’s flowering slopes. His project on the island of flowers kicked off on Tuesday, 24 April in Friedrichshafen with the completion of his biggest work of art to date: press representatives came together in a hangar at the local airport to witness the completion of one of his motifs on a 75-metre-long blimp. The airship, with its colourful motif of a woman, will hover high above Lake Constance until the end of August, and will be visible for miles around.
The social summer on the island of Mainau will commence with the glamorous opening event on 13 June, to which more than 300 celebrities, industrialists, artists and journalists are invited. The Royal Dinner held by the Mentor Foundation International on 15 June 2007 will be attended in person by the foundation’s president, Queen Silvia of Sweden. On 15 September, Audi is sponsoring the fashion show staged by Escada and Mirja Sachs. Profits from the subsequent auction of designer items will go to the Mirja Sachs Foundation.
Audi enjoys a long tradition of art sponsorship, dating back to 1985. Through its cultural commitment, AUDI AG fulfils its social responsibility as a successful premium manufacturer. The company’s main field of activity is classical music: the famous Audi Summer Concerts, for example, have been held since 1990. Audi is also the principal sponsor of the Salzburg Festival and the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. Supporting artistic events and innovative projects is also part of Audi’s corporate philosophy.
