Audi R8 to grow by two more cylinders
Audi's wonder car R8, has played host to the 1000 Nm V12 TDi Diesel engine. It sent out reverberations across the industry that were far too strong that fellow supercar brands were puzzled on whether or not a diesel plunge would be worthwhile option.
Eventually Audi came out and clearly stated that the V12 diesel concept would stay as a concept and would not graduate into a production model. Those heart broken souls can now rejoice, as a larger displacement R8 with a V10 engine has been spotted testing!
Currently, the gasoline powered V8 coaxes out 420 bhp and 430 Nm of torque. The V10 upgradation would only mean more power and torque- 500+ bhp and red-lining at 8500 rpm, the engineers confirm.
The new V10 as one would think, is not borrowed from the Audi RS6. It is designed based on the current V8 and the car would be officially revealed later this year and would go on sale early 2009. Stay tuned for further updates as we track the developments closely.
