Oil and car care company, Comma, will help power one of the top national single-seater racing championships in the UK, Formula Palmer Audi, this year. Comma will act as sponsor and technical partner to the championship, brainchild of ex-Formula 1 driver Jonathan Palmer. The firm, based in Gravesend, Kent, will also supply Palmer’s world-famous corporate motorsport facility at Bedford Autodrome, as well as the driving experiences run at his circuits, Brands Hatch and Oulton Park.

Formula Palmer Audi has cemented its position as one of the best platforms from which young racing drivers can launch themselves into the European and global driver market. All 22 drivers pilot identical 300bhp single-seaters, which are prepared in-house by the Formula Palmer Audi team.

The level playing field, coupled with overboost buttons, which provide six-second bursts of 350bhp to encourage overtaking, means it is down to the driver’s ability to ensure race wins and ultimately the championship victory.

“With drivers of the calibre of Justin Wilson, Robbie Kerr, Giorgio Pantano and Bjorn Wirdheim racing in the upper echelons of international motorsport, following their successful campaigns in Formula Palmer Audi, it is clear that our championship is a proven training ground for aspiring young talent,” said Palmer. “Such an important series should use top quality automotive products, offering both high performance and reliability, and that is why we chose Comma.”

Comma’s performance oil, brake fluid, coolants and many other products will be used in every FPA car, as well as all vehicles used at Palmer’s other venues. At Bedford, these include Porsche 911s, Jaguar XKRs, Caterhams and JP1 Le Mans-style sportscars. At the circuits, Renault Sport high-performance Clios and Meganes are used alongside Audi powered single seaters.

Mike Bewsey, Marketing and Sales Director at Comma, said: “Formula Palmer Audi is not only a proven producer of world-class racing drivers, but also allows us to showcase our products on a demanding, high-profile stage.”

The 2007 Visma FPA Championship in association with Comma begins its 10th anniversary season at Silverstone on April 7.
