Duncan James – ‘Ice’ cool in his Leon Cupra
Duncan James, former Blue singer and star of both television and the West End, has chosen a rapid set of wheels to match his busy lifestyle in the limelight – the dynamic new SEAT Leon Cupra. The 29 year-old Brit – one of the stars of ITV’s Dancing on Ice show earlier this year, and the latest big name to feature in hit show Chicago at the Cambridge Theatre in London – is a huge fan of sharp-looking hot hatches, and so approached SEAT to become an ambassador for the car.
‘The Leon Cupra is a very cool car that I really enjoy driving. It manages to get so much power on to the road without getting out of shape – and when you do put your foot down you certainly know you’re in a high performance car. I love it!’
Duncan became a household name in 2001 as part of the quartet that made up Blue, one of the most successful boy bands this decade. By 2005 the group had enjoyed 40 No.1 singles worldwide, sold 13 million records and performed three sell-out tours. They also collected two Brit awards, including ‘Best Pop Act’, two MTV awards and a host of other prestigious accolades.
Since Blue, Duncan has released a number of solo singles, while also enjoying great success in television. Credits include BBC’s City Hospital, GMTV, The National Lottery Show and, of course, the ‘skate-away’ success that was Dancing on Ice. Now Duncan has added another string to his bow by appearing on stage in London.
‘I’ve just made my West End debut as Billy Flynn in Chicago, which is really exciting because it’s the first time I’ve ever done anything like this,’ he enthused. ‘I’m going to be spending a lot of time in Covent Garden over the next few months, so I’m sure lots of people will see me driving to work in my Cupra.’
Peter Wyhinny, Director of SEAT UK, said: ‘SEAT is a dynamic brand with one of the youngest customer age profiles in Europe, so it’s great that Duncan is so keen to get behind the wheel of the Leon Cupra, our flagship model. Duncan, who is well known as a young and successful pop and TV star, is a great ambassador for our brand.’
With a substantial 240 PS of smoothly delivered power, the 2.0-litre TSI Leon Cupra can sprint from zero to 62 mph in just 6.4 seconds, before going on to a top speed of 153 mph (where permitted). Enhancements over the already-hot Leon FR models include a larger turbocharger, 18-inch alloy wheels, red brake callipers, bi-xenon headlights, racing-style front bucket seats, a lowered ride height and aluminium front suspension components. In keeping with Cupra tradition, elements such as the pillars, door mirrors, front grille surround, lower front spoiler and interior trim are finished in black.
At £19,695, the Leon Cupra offers notable value for money for its power and equipment. Standard specification includes dual-zone climate control, four electric windows, MP3-compatible CD player with Aux-In socket for iPods etc, steering-wheel mounted radio controls, trip computer with cruise control, and ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Programme).
