The Dubai Autism Center was today presented with a cheque for Dhs 280,953 by General Motors Middle East, as a result of money raised from the prestigious General Motors Style Event that was held last November in Dubai.

At a special presentation held on the premises of the Dubai Autism Center, Terry Johnsson, president of General Motors - Middle East Operations, handed over the cheque to H.E. Dr. Omar Bin Sulaiman, Governor of Dubai Financial Centre and Vice-Chairman of Dubai Autism Center (DAC), in the presence of Mohammad Al Emadi, Director General & Board Member of Dubai Autism Center (DAC).

Dr. Omar Bin Sulaiman stated: “We are particularly grateful for General Motors’ support, and their donation of this generous amount of money. As part of the International Community, they are embracing the responsibility of playing a role in developing our society".

The donation of over Dhs 280,000, which also included a significant contribution from GM staff members, was primarily derived from ticket sales to the GM Style Event that was held on the evening of 11 November 2007 in the Madinat Arena. Guests at the show had the rare opportunity to spend a night of glitz and glamour in the company of some of the most sensational vehicles that General Motors has produced in its 100 years history, in addition to glamorous celebrities from the International and Arab World, including the likes of Yosra, Rachel Hunter, Milad Yousef and Sulaf Fawakherji.

The celebrities, who donated their time in support of this worthy cause, also spent significant time with the children at the Dubai Autism Center. As a responsible company with great respect for its local community, GM chose to partner with the Dubai Autism Center, which is the largest, most innovative and comprehensive non-profit organization in the UAE, serving children with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Terry Johnsson, President of General Motors - Middle East Operations, said, “the Dubai Autism Center has provided an invaluable service to the community since its establishment in 2001 and is focused on providing educational and therapeutic support to children diagnosed with Autism. We hope our small contribution will help Dubai Autism Center to fulfill its plans”.
