New portable navigation system to feature Nissan's CARWINGS service

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today announced it will start providing its popular CARWINGS system to aftermarket car navigation devices in Japan. This is the first time a company's proprietary information service - previously available only with a car purchase - has been made available in off-the-shelf navigation devices. SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. will include the CARWINGS system in their latest portable navigation device beginning next month.

SANYO's portable navigation device, NV-BD600DT, will offer the Nissan CARWINGS system that has only been available in Nissan and a select number of vehicles as part of the onboard navigation system. This portable navigation system is part of a growing market of plug-and-play navigation devices that Nissan predicts will provide more probe data (*). The data itself will help in calculating the fastest and most accurate routes available to both Nissan genuine navigation system and portable navigation device users. The Sanyo device goes on sale in October.

Nissan is committed to further develop advanced on-board information technologies like CARWINGS to deliver more convenient and reliable information services in tune with the needs of automobile users.
