Codenamed ‘F30,’ the 2012 BMW 3 Series will be wider and longer in contrast to the existing model. It will be available with a wide range of petrols and diesels which are rumoured to be 3-cylinder turbocharged units that are cleaner and more efficient than the present line-up.
Probable engine line-up
x16i – 1.35-litre, 3-cylinder, 163bhp/140 lb-ft
x18i – 1.35-litre, 3-cylinder, 201bhp/162 lb-ft
x20i – 1.35-litre, 3-cylinder, 241bhp/192 lb-ft
x23i – 1.8-litre, 4-cylinder, 273bhp/220 lb-ft
x25i – 1.8-litre, 4-cylinder, 321bhp/258 lb-ft
BMW's advanced Efficient dynamics will be employed at full swing and in that, several systems will make their debut like for example the Stop-Start technology and the Kinetic Energy Recovery System that F1 cars are relying on to save energy.
Wireless internet and data connectivity will be a boon to all, since email checking and news updates don't have to come only at the Wi-Fi coffee shop during the journey.
The 2012 BMW 3-Series will also come in 'M' variant dubbed M3 (duh!) The 2012 BMW M3 will use a smaller and more powerful bi-turbo V6 as compared to the existing V8 engine. A four cylinder is also in the rumour mill, we have to wait for further reports on that matter.
