General Motors Corp. and UzAvtoSanoat of Uzbekistan signed a series of agreements today at GM Daewoo Auto & Technology (GM Daewoo) in the presence of Republic of Uzbekistan President Islam Karimov, who is making a visit to Korea. “The partnership between UzAvtoSanoat and General Motors will help drive the automotive industry of Uzbekistan towards new level of development,” said President Karimov. “Our goal is to build a world-class industry that benefits the people of Uzbekistan by providing them a broad range of modern, attractive and affordable vehicles.”

Saturn announced today at the North American International Auto Show that production may begin as soon as 2010 on a plug-in hybrid electric version of the Saturn Vue Green Line, expected to be the first regular production plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. Depending on a consumer's drive cycle, the Vue plug-in hybrid will be the most fuel-efficient vehicle offered by a major automaker.

Pop/rock/soul sensation and two-time Grammy Award winner Maroon 5 will perform in GM Style, an invitation-only celebration of cars, music and fashion that takes place on Jan. 12, leading up to the North American International Auto Show. GM announced that two additional vehicles, the Opel Corsa OPC and HUMMER H3R concept, as well as rock-inspired fashions by Royal Underground, created by Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx and former St. John model and CEO Kelly Gray; and hip-hop mogul/entrepreneur Russell Simmons' new Argyle Culture line. GM Holden added another vehicle to its growing export program today with the announcement that full production of the Pontiac G8 for the US market was now underway. The introduction of the Pontiac G8 represents a significant milestone for GM Holden as it brings the mix of vehicles produced at the Elizabeth manufacturing plant in Adelaide to a 50-50 split of export and domestic production.
