Turbocharged CNG engines from Opel arriving in 2009
Believe it or not, turbochargers are used to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. Opel, in 2009 will introduce a new 1.6-liter CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) engine which will be turbocharged and would produce 150 hp and 210 Nm of torque. The idea behind this engine is just that- turbocharging engines to increase efficiency – meaning lower consumption and emissions and without making any compromises in performance.

Eisenach. German Economics Minister Michael Glos and Minister-President of the German State of Thuringia Dieter Althaus were present as actress Esther Schweins drove the ten-millionth Opel Corsa off the production lines at the plant in Eisenach. The anniversary car is a Corsa ecoFLEX 1.3 CDTI, which emits an especially low 119 grams CO2/km. Minister Glos highlighted the important contribution to employment and growth that Opel has brought to Eisenach with its production plant. “The development of the automobile industry in the new German states has been highly successful, and Opel has played a major role in this success here in Eisenach."

For the second year in a row, an Antara with Balázs Szalay and his ‘Szalay Dakar Team’ at the wheel will take on the Lisbon-Dakar rally – the longest and most difficult cross-country rally competition in the world. With expert assistance from GM Racing and sponsorship from General Motors/Opel Hungary, the private team’s brand new car – an Opel Antara RR – has been specially adapted to the harsh conditions and includes the latest GM race engine. Half a Million New Opel Corsas Already Registered

The 500,000th new Opel Corsa will be registered in December 2007. Since its sales start around 14 months ago, the model has been successfully positioned throughout Europe and continues to lead large markets such as Germany and the United Kingdom. Opel was able to increase Corsa registrations across Europe in the first 11 months of 2007 by around 50 percent compared to the same last-year period. This puts Opel’s successful model far ahead of other German competitors in the segment, who all had at least 45,000 fewer vehicle registrations than the Corsa.

Opel Antara Built in Russia

The Opel Antara is now assembled in St. Petersburg
The first Opel Antara built in Russia-has rolled off the assembly line in St. Petersburg. In 2008, production volume will increase up to approximately 2500 vehicles. Assembly of the Opel Antara has started at General Motors’ Arsenal assembly facility in St. Petersburg. During the construction of General Motors’ permanent plant in Shushary, the Arsenal assembly complex has been both the headquarters of GM’s manufacturing team and its regional employment and training center. The Shushary facility, which is scheduled to come on stream in late 2008, will employ a workforce of 900 and have a total capacity of 70,000 vehicles per year.
