Opel turned Barcelona’s streets into catwalks: 30 European top models traveled to trendy Spanish brand Mango’s largest fashion show of the year in a blazing-red fleet of Tigra TwinTop cars. They presented the new autumn collection to 450 guests from the international fashion world and many VIPs such as Dominik García-Lorido at the city’s “Museum of contemporary art”. In the partnership between Opel’s Tigra TwinTop and the cool fashion label from Barcelona both brands are keen to explore further advertising and promotion projects together across Europe for the two-seat cabrio and the current Mango collection.
Adam Opel GmbH breaks new ground by introducing its newest vehicles using special marketing initiatives. With the latest communication project, Opel is the exclusive partner of Internet TV provider “Joost”. The Opel GT, Antara and Corsa models, as well as the Astra family, will be presented to Joost TV viewers in various advertising formats during the provider’s three-month pilot phase from the beginning of May 2007. This continues Opel’s ongoing focus on new communication channels. Opel was also the first automaker to form a partnership with Vodafone’s Live Portal and offer audio Podcast advertisements.
Opel and the Spanish fashion brand Mango have signed an agreement to launch a joint advertising campaign across Europe from this spring. The cooperation between the two firms promotes the two-seat Tigra TwinTop cabrio and the current Mango collection. “Every street is a catwalk, and that goes for people and their clothes as well as for cars,” says Olivier Danan, Director Marketing Communication for Opel, explaining the concept behind the cooperation. “Today more than ever before, cars are also considered chic accessories that have to fit an overall stylish look.”
The Opel GTC’s low-slung profile has already led to it being dubbed the “new Calibra”. But according to GM insiders, it’s a lot more radical than that. The car’s coupe profile is what you’ll get with next year’s new Vectra. “Imagine the GTC with two extra doors. That’s Vectra,” said one GM executive who’s seen finished Vectra prototypes. The Vectra will take a radical approach with regard to saloon and hatch versions too – they’ll be virtually identical in terms of styling, and will share the same side profile.
For the 14th time, a completely independant jury, the Comité Cabriolet, composed of 21 motor journalists from 12 countries, has elected the "CABRIO OF THE YEAR". The eligible car has to be first shown at this year's Geneva International Motor Show.
The Opel GTC concept is being touted as an example of the brand’s future look, according to GM officials. The four door coupé, which was unveiled during the 77th International Geneva Motor Show, is powered by a 220 kW/300 hp, 2.8-liter V6 engine. The car also features “Flex4”, a system that enables the backs of both the rear seats to be moved forward via a remote control and creates a three or two-seat car with extra storage space. The two-door vehicle can also achieve a top speed up to 250 km/h and can go from zero to 100 km/h in an estimated six seconds.
On the eve of the 77th Geneva Motor Show, Opel illuminated the night. Supported by a dramatic light show, the Opel GTC Concept (Gran Turismo Coupé) made its spectacular debut at the “GM Premiere Night.” Heralding a new design era for the brand, the GTC Concept gives an insight into how Opel’s design language will look in the future. Adding to progressive shapes and surfaces, the four-seat coupé features unique LED lighting concepts in the front and rear, providing a new signature lighting style for the brand.
With new, more economical engines, a refined look, enhanced technology and an expanded equipment range, the new edition of the Opel Astra is available at dealerships from February 2007 at a practically unchanged, affordable price starting from 16,160 euros. The whole Astra family benefits from the model update, from the five-door and station wagon variants to the sporty three-door GTC and dynamic, elegant TwinTop cabrio-coupé. The new Opel Astra made its world premiere at the Bologna Motor Show in December. With about 1.3 million units sold since its market launch in March 2004, the third-generation Astra plays a leading role in the fiercely competitive compact segment and in European sales statistics. The bestseller will now be available with a range of eleven different engine versions, producing between 90 and 240 hp.
The Opel Meriva has achieved the lowest defect rate in the TÜV report 2007. Introduced in 2003 and now tested for the first time (first general inspection is three years after initial registration), the minivan immediately established itself as the top performer in this quality check. 113 different models with ages up to three years are indexed. Faults were only found in 1.8 percent of the bestselling Opel Merivas that were checked; the industry average was 5.9 percent.
Opel has shifted into top gear with the new Corsa. Following the successful market launch of the bestseller’s fourth generation, Opel now sends the sporty top version on to the road. The OPC model is the quintessential expression of the Corsa’s dynamic character, with top-level agility and vehicle control promising pure driving fun. Its 1.6-liter turbo engine with 141 kW/192 hp accelerates the compact three-door from zero to 100 km/h in 7.2 seconds and enables a top speed of 225 km/h. The maximum torque of 230 Nm, which can be temporarily increased to over 260 Nm via an 'overboost' function, is delivered to the front wheels by the standard six-speed transmission. This level of performance provides the newest member of the sporty OPC family with superb propulsion power in all driving situations. For instance, accelerating from 80 to 120 km/h takes just 6.7 seconds in fifth gear. The Corsa OPC requires 7.9 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers, a moderate figure in this performance class. It makes its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show in early March, shortly before its market launch.
