Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has today confirmed development plans for its Goodwood headquarters and manufacturing facility. With the design for the first of a new model series approved, preparations are underway for enhanced production facilities to cope with unprecedented customer demand for the Phantom family of cars. Rolls-Royce Motor Cars announced today that the manufacturing plant at Goodwood is working at full production to meet unprecedented customer demand. Additional shifts and extended working hours have been introduced and will continue throughout the remainder of the year. This level of demand is reflected in the quarterly sales figures, also announced today. By the end of September 2007 the company had retailed 22 per cent more cars compared to the same period last year with demand for all models increasing. Forward orders for the four-door models stretch well into 2008 and for the new Phantom Drophead Coupé, extend right through next year.

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has confirmed that a series version of the two-door, four-seat experimental car, 101EX, will be launched in 2008. Production is scheduled to begin next summer. It will be hand-built at the company’s manufacturing plant in Goodwood, England. This model will complete the Phantom family line-up alongside the Phantom, Phantom Extended Wheelbase and Phantom Drophead Coupé.

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars will hand over two Phantom Extended Wheelbase cars to The Peninsula Tokyo on 31 August, just before the official opening of the hotel in Marunouchi, Tokyo on 1 September 2007. The cars will be used to chauffeur The Peninsula’s VIP guests around Tokyo. These two Phantoms bring the total number in The Peninsula Hotels’ fleet to 16. In December 2006 the largest ever single order of 14 Rolls-Royce Phantom Extended Wheelbase cars was delivered to The Peninsula Hong Kong.

The first customer Phantom Drophead Coupés have today left the company’s head office and manufacturing plant at Goodwood. The five cars are destined for customers around the world. Each car is hand-built to specific requirements and features individual wood veneer, leather and paint finish choices. The first five customers have also specified the optional steel bonnet and rear teak deck. The bonnet is machine brushed before being hand finished to ensure a uniform grain throughout. The deck is made up of separate solid teak slats, hand sanded and waxed to give a ‘just cut’ finish.
