The new Saab 9-3 range features bold, more assertive looks, reflecting a series of powertrain improvements that include the introduction of all-wheel drive and more powerful diesel, petrol and BioPower flex-fuel engines. The distinctive frontal styling, inspired by Saab’s award-winning Aero X concept car, is designed to reinforce the range’s sporty appeal. Its engine line-up will ultimately include an innovative 180 hp (132 kW), twin-turbo 1.9 diesel, an uprated 280 hp (206 kW), 2.8V6 turbo petrol engine and an additional 175 hp 2.0t Saab BioPower option, delivering 200 hp (147 kW) when running on bioethanol E85 fuel.

Saab’s Approved Used Car Scheme has been named the best in Britain by weekly magazine Auto Express. Saab’s scheme came top in the prestigious Auto Express Used Car Honours 2007, thanks to the added features it offers to buyers, over and above what rival car manufacturers offer. “As well as the usual multi-point mechanical and history checks, the Saab Approved Used Car Scheme also gives second-hand buyers, something different,” the magazine writes. “Not only does it provide a one-year guarantee – instead of a warranty – but the list of benefits available includes cover for the car’s brakes, battery and clutch.”

Despite the plethora of environmentally-friendly cars at The Sexy Green Car Show which opens at the Eden Project in St Austell, Cornwall next week, Swedish premium car maker Saab is confident that it will turn the rest of the event quite literally green with envy now that its entire range, including the iconic Saab 9-3 Convertible, is offered with the option of an eco-friendly engine. Unlike other manufacturers, Saab does not have just one or two headline-grabbing green cars – uniquely, its whole model line-up can now be ordered with a choice of innovative ‘BioPower’ flex-fuel engines, some of which will be on show at Eden. Saab is the only volume car company in the UK able to make this claim.

Saab customers, VIP guests and dealers from all over the world are being greeted with an ‘iced’ 9-3 Convertible when they arrive for the Saab Ice Experience event at Sweden’s world famous ICEHOTEL. Saab broke the ice, more than 20 years ago, when it pioneered the concept of an open-top car providing practical, year-round transport. So it was clearly a cool idea to ‘freeze frame’ the latest Saab 9-3 Convertible in a garage made from ice at the hotel, near Jukkasjärvi in northern Sweden, 200 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle. Visible at night from a kilometer away, the icy reflections of the convertible’s illuminated bright blue paintwork give arriving guests an automotive interpretation of the Northern Lights. The installation, added to this year’s version of the ICEHOTEL, is made from 60 ice blocks, weighing 30 tons, all harvested from the nearby Torne River, one of Europe’s purest.
