Toyota: First motor race win with a hybrid car
Toyota made history last weekend by winning the Tokashi 24-Hour Race with its Supra HV-R hybrid race car. It is the first time ever that a Hybrid race car has won a competition. The Supra’s success follows an entry last year when Toyota was the first car manufacturer to enter a hybrid vehicle – the Lexus GS450h – into the Tokashi 24-Hour race which finished 17th overall.

Honda (UK) has sealed a major corporate deal to replace IKEA UK’s entire company car fleet with Civic Hybrids. This follows a commitment made by the home furnishings retailer to reduce its environmental impact and in particular, reduce CO2 emissions. In total, Honda will supply 50 Civic Hybrids this year, with a further delivery in 2008. Toyota Motor Corporation Surpasses 1 Million Global Hybrid Sales
Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc., announced the one-millionth hybrid sale today by parent company, Toyota Motor Corporation. Of the one million hybrid sales worldwide, more than half have been sold in the United States -- 541,210 units from 2000 through April 2007. "The cost benefit of hybrids is becoming more apparent with climbing gas prices," said Jim Lentz, TMS executive vice president. "We anticipate combined sales of Toyota and Lexus hybrids of a quarter million units in the U.S. during calendar year 2007."

Hybrid market doubles in a year in the UK
Sales of hybrid cars in the UK have doubled in the last 12 months – making cleaner cars the fastest growing sector in the industry. Year to date results for the hybrid market show an increase in sales from 3,117 to 6,568 cars – or 111 per cent. Continued growth in the sector was reflected by Honda’s performance in May, when the company sold more hybrids over one month than ever before. 604 of the low-emission Civic Hybrid saloons were registered during May, bringing year to date sales to 1,136.

DaimlerChrysler will unveil the first prototype of the diesel-electric hybrid Mercedes-Benz Citaro to the general public in the course of this year, the company announced at the occasion of the UITP world congress for public transportation in Helsinki. This prototype embodies highly sophisticated diesel-electric series hybrid technology which will allow emission-free operation in battery-only mode. The system will be installed in a Citaro G articulated bus. This configuration is currently worldwide unique. Following the unveiling of the prototype in the second half of 2007, pilot operation will begin early next year. The series production is scheduled for 2009.
