Roush introduces the first dedicated propane-powered F-150 pickup truck using an advanced liquid propane injection (LPI) system. The Roush F-150 LPI is designed and manufactured to operate solely on propane while providing the same horsepower, torque and drivability of an F-150 equipped with a gasoline-powered 5.4-liter, 3-valve Triton V-8 engine.

In a display of commitment to the development of hybrid powertrain architecture and advanced batteries, DaimlerChrysler is expanding its concept plug-in hybrid program to include the all-new 2007 Dodge Sprinter. Up to 20 Dodge Sprinter Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) will be placed in the United States between now and the first quarter of 2008 as part of a test-fleet program. Four of the vehicles, built on the previous- generation Dodge Sprinter, already are in operation with customers. DaimlerChrysler is the only auto manufacturer currently evaluating a variety of plug-in hybrid powertrain (diesel and gas) configurations in real-world, customer-operation service within the United States.

Maybe no make of car in the last 25 years has caused the firestorm of controversy like the hybrid car. Thanks to the recent hit Hollywood documentary “Who Killed The Electric Car?” hybrid automobiles are seen by some as a giant step backwards from a self-sufficient electric car to one that now needs a gasoline engine. But regardless of the politics involved in making a practical and popular non-gasoline car, hybrids appear to be the wave of the future and one of the most popular car choices of the present.

Mazda Motor Corporation today announced that it has delivered one dual-fueled RX-8 Hydrogen RE vehicle, which runs on either gasoline or hydrogen, to the Japan Automobile Research Institute (JARI). The Mazda RX-8 Hydrogen RE has a rotary engine with a dual-fuel system that allows the driver to select either gasoline or hydrogen fuel with the flick of a switch.

In a Geneva show with a distinctly green theme, Toyota made moves to stamp its environmental product leadership on the European auto industry, launching a new hybrid concept model, the Hybrid X. Mazda Motor Corporation is joining forces with the Hokkaido Regional Development Bureau (HRDB) to test the cold weather performance of its hydrogen cars. In response to a request from the HRDB, a Mazda RX-8 Hydrogen RE is being used for the tests, which are scheduled to run from February 19 to 23, 2007. This cold weather testing coincides with the Environment and Transport Symposium on Hydrogen Energy that is being held in Muroran city, Hokkaido Prefecture, on February 21. Participants in the symposium will have a chance to ride in the RX-8 Hydrogen RE and attend a briefing session. The HRDB is a division of Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MLIT).
