For the first time in the competition, contestants will have to prove that their skills go beyond virtual driving in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue™. Contestants will be getting behind the wheel of Nissan’s 350Z and GT-R to compete for the chance to be one of two drivers joining the Nissan racing team in the Dubai 24hr race in 2009.
The Jaguar XF has yet again been voted 'Car of the Year' – its fourth top title win since being launched in March. This time the premier award comes courtesy of Auto Express in their New Car Honours 2008. Jaguar's multi-award winning sports saloon claimed its crown following victory in the 'Best Executive Car' category ahead of the BMW 5-Series, the Mercedes CLS and E-Class, the Audi A6 and the Lexus GS.
The Ulster Rally has featured as a round of the Mitsubishi Ralliart Evolution Challenge for the past three years, the popular International event providing a perfect addition to the championship, as it occupies a vacant slot in the calendar and offers a second asphalt rally in the seven-round season. A 1938 Alfa Romeo owned by Jon and Mary Shirley of Medina, Wash., was named “Best of Show” at the 58th Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance held Sunday along the 18th fairway of Pebble Beach Golf Links®. Proceeds from raffles, auctions, sponsorships and gate receipts helped contribute more than $1.3 million to charity for the third consecutive year.
Just a few weeks before the start of the summer Paralympics for handicapped people, several athletes enjoyed a welcome change from hard training: Audi modified A4 and A5 models and invited the athletes to a ‘driving experience’ in Seefeld. The Olympians were impressed. “Such a driving experience event is a fantastic opportunity to get to know the full range of possibilities hidden in these top cars,” said a delighted Gerd Schönfelder, who has already won twelve gold medals in his career in the Alpine skiing discipline and is, as a result, the most successful Alpine skier in Paralympics history. “I experienced a lot of new things and spent many exciting hours behind the wheel.”

General Motors last week released photos and video of the production version of its electric car, the Chevrolet Volt. The vehicle was first introduced at the North American International Auto Show in 2007 and is an important element of General Motors' plan to develop a full-range of gas-friendly to gas-free vehicles.
Last year Volvo unveiled an innovative plug-in hybrid at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The ReCharge Concept is a specially designed Volvo C30 with individual electric wheel motors and batteries that can be charged via a regular electrical outlet. When fully charged the Volvo ReCharge Concept can be driven approximately 62 miles on battery power alone before the car’s four-cylinder 1.6 Flexifuel engine1 is needed to power the car and recharge the battery. The concept car also retains the Volvo C30’s lively and sporty drive thanks to an acceleration figure of 0-62mph in 9 seconds and a top speed of 100mph. Land Rover's 60th anniversary celebration continues with hosting the festivities held during the legendary Pebble Beach Concours D’Elegance, also celebrating its 58th anniversary this year. Land Rover hosted automotive aficiandos from around the world with a Portraits of Adventure photo exhibition, displays of vintage Land Rovers, and its newest concept car, the LRX. Available video includes general views and commentary on vehicle highlights and the event in Monterey and Pebble Beach, California.
