Preparations for the first-ever night race in FORMULA 1™ history have been steadily building up with in-principle approval received for the Singapore street circuit, as well as the bespoke state-of-the-art lighting system. The biggest sports event the Republic has ever hosted, the inaugural FORMULA 1TM SingTel Singapore Grand Prix is set to be a truly unique event when the cars line up on the starting grid on 28 September 2008.

The ING Renault F1 Team is pleased to announce a competitive driver duo for the 2008 Formula 1 season. Next year, double world champion Fernando Alonso will drive alongside Brazilian rookie Nelson Piquet Jr. They will be supported by Frenchman Romain Grosjean, reigning 2007 F3 Euroseries Champion and a product of Renault’s driver development scheme, in the role of test driver.

Mitsubishi is preparing to defend its 8 consecutive victories in the toughest endurance race on the planet, the Dakar 2008. Mitsubishi’s CEO, Osama Masuko, has also announced that the event will be providing essential technical feedback for the all-new range of high performance clean diesel engines, which have been confirmed will make their debut at the Dakar in 2009.

The new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup is entering the 2008 motorsport season with engine output increased to 420 bhp. The car will be raced in the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup, the world’s fastest international brand trophy, and worldwide in national Porsche Carrera Cups and GT3 Cup Challenges. 265 units of this production-based racing car developed in Weissach will be built on Porsche’s production line in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, marking a new record for a car of this category.

Aston Martin is launching an exciting new one-make race series for Asia. This follows the announcement of two new Aston Martin dealerships in Shanghai and Beijing. Called the Aston Martin Asia Cup (AMAC), the series starts in 2008 and will consist of 12 races throughout the Asia Pacific region including China, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore. Each race will feature a grid of 18 Aston Martin Vantage N24s, a 4.3 litre race-developed evolution of the V8 Vantage which has been proven in endurance and sprint races in Europe and the Middle East.

Alain Menu, Nicola Larini and Robert Huff, the Chevrolet WTCC team racing drivers, have each purchased a Corvette Z06 for their personal use. At the weekends they win races in their light blue Chevrolet Lacetti race car in FIA’s World Touring Car Championship and during the week drive around in their yellow Corvette Z06. The main technical characteristics of the Corvette Z06 are well known: 512 hp, 637 Nm torque and 3.9 seconds to 100 km/h from a standing start. The sixth generation Corvette was launched in 2005 and a year later the race-bred Z06 version was introduced. This American sports car icon is recognised as the best value, high performance car on the market with sales in Europe nearly double last year.

The Euro NCAP five-star rated cee’d has proven it’s a safe car in more ways than one – it has been employed as an official Safety Car at a number of motor racing circuits around the UK. The job of a Safety Car is to intervene in serious and dangerous incidents during races to control the pace of the cars or motor cycles until the incident is resolved. It’s a tough role, but the Kia cee’d is up to it.

On Sunday (September 23), BMW Team UK driver and double World Touring Car Champion, Andy Priaulx will be looking for home victory at the British round of the FIA WTCC 2007 championship at Brands Hatch. Priaulx will arrive at Brands Hatch in the thick of a super-competitive championship battle, trailing team-mate, Augusto Farfus (BMW Germany) by just one point in his bid to secure a hat-trick of consecutive world crowns. With just three rounds of the championship remaining, the title looks set to be decided once again on the streets of Macau at the season climax on November 18.
