SEAT - 2006 BTCC Manufacturer Champions
SEAT is really on a roll! Not only are UK sales up by 15% compared with last year, but in motor sport the brand yesterday (Sunday 15th October) won the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship Manufacturers’ title for the first time. In only its third season of participation, and the first with the new Leon, SEAT scored 11 wins and 24 podium finishes in the 30 races to beat its nearest rival by 44 points. SEAT Sport UK team driver Jason Plato also finished runner-up in the BTCC Drivers’ standings.

Audi R10 TDI Also Wins Petit Le Mans
For the first time, a diesel- powered sportscar has won the American Endurance classic "Petit Le Mans". With their victory at Road Atlanta, Audi prematurely clinched the Manufacturers' Championship in the LM P1 "top class" of the American Le Mans Series having already won the Drivers' and Teams' titles. The new Audi R10 TDI remains unbeaten in the seventh race of its debut season, having now won the third most important Endurance race of the year after the 12 Hours of Sebring in March and the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June.

New 2007 Porsche RS Spyder debuts at Paris
Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, is proudly presenting the new RS Spyder at the Paris Motor Show, the Mondial de l‘ Automobile, from 30 September – 15 October, where the car is making its first public appearance. Developed at Porsche's R&D Centre in Weissach near Stuttgart, this racing car is an evolution of the sports prototype currently going all-out for the winner's title in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) in the hands of the US Penske-Motorsports-Team. Next year the new RS Spyder is to be raced by various customer teams in a number of countries, thus making its international debut.

Sebring, Le Mans, Salt Lake City, Portland, Road America, Mosport - the Audi R10 TDI remains unbeaten after six races and its exploits have already gone down in the history books. The revolutionary Audi diesel-powered sportscar faces yet another tough test: "Petit Le Mans” at Road Atlanta is, with a distance of 1000 miles or a maximum duration of 10 hours, the second longest race in the American Le Mans Series and one of the year’s most important sportscar races. Audi has reunited this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans race winning trio for Petit Le Mans: Taking turns at the wheel of the Audi R10 TDI, with start number 1, will be Frank Biela (Germany), Emanuele Pirro (Italy) and Marco Werner (Germany), who will race together again for the first time since their historic Le Mans victory in June. Marco Werner won the American Le Mans Series in 2003 and 2004 and has been heavily involved in the development of the Audi R10 TDI.

Kia has released pictures of its next all-new C-segment model, the estate-bodied cee’d sport wagon which will be shown in public for the first time at the Mondial de L’Automobile in Paris next week. Due to go into full production in the middle of 2007 and on sale throughout Europe from next September, the vehicle is the next in Kia’s European-designed, European-engineered cee’d line-up to be built at the Zilina factory in Slovakia.

Nelson Piquet Jr will make his Renault test debut this week when he gets behind the wheel of the R26 at Silverstone, Formula1.com reports. It will be Piquet’s first Formula One outing since signing with the team as an official 2007 test driver. Piquet, runner-up in the 2006 GP2 series, will participate in all three days of the session, acclimatising himself to the car, to the team and to its working methods. Weather allowing, the Brazilian will also begin working on technical development programmes.

Huge crowds flock to World Series by Renault spectacular
A crowd of over 90,000 made the 2006 World Series by Renault meeting at Donington Park one of the biggest motorsport events in the UK this year. The two-day event, part of a nine-leg European tour showcasing Renault’s prestigious single-seater and saloon car Championships, drew 34,512 people on Saturday, 9th September and a further 56,734 on Sunday, 10th September for a total of 91,246. The crowd equalled Donington Park’s previous record set at the British MotoGP in 2004.
