The Opel GTC concept is being touted as an example of the brand’s future look, according to GM officials. The four door coupé, which was unveiled during the 77th International Geneva Motor Show, is powered by a 220 kW/300 hp, 2.8-liter V6 engine. The car also features “Flex4”, a system that enables the backs of both the rear seats to be moved forward via a remote control and creates a three or two-seat car with extra storage space. The two-door vehicle can also achieve a top speed up to 250 km/h and can go from zero to 100 km/h in an estimated six seconds.

Video: Nick Heidfeld drives BMW Sauber F1 car on ice over frozen lake

To mark the 100th anniversary of White Turf St. Moritz, the annual international horse race event, sponsor BMW Sauber’s Formula 1 pilot Nick Heidfeld drives the new BMW Sauber F1 racing car across the frozen lake of St. Moritz in Switzerland. The icy conditions present a new challenge for the F1 car, which means that in addition to having to warm the engine every half hour and fit the car with special radiator covers, it is also outfitted with special spiked tires to help with its traction.

An elderly couple in Bosnia have covered their VW Beetle in more than 20,000 handmade small oak pieces which were glued to the bodywork and then varnished. The car can be driven legally. Here is the translation of what the guy said: "What do I know? If one loves cars, he can make everything. People find me weird, and ask me how can I do it. But, how can I not? If you like something, than you can make anything. It wouldn't be very good to stay in the rain, but it can't do much harm to the car."

Video: Mazda Ryuga Concept

Mazda unveiled its second chapter in their ‘Nagare’ (Japanese for ‘flow’) journey on Jan. 8 with the unveiling of the Ryuga concept car. The journey, which was set in motion with the introduction of the Nagare concept vehicle at the L.A. Auto Show, now has a counter part in a 4-seater sports coupe. The Ryuga is powered by a 2.5L MZR Flex Fuel (E85 / Gasoline) system. The vehicle is low to the ground, standing nearly a foot shorter than the Mazda3. Features include blind spot monitoring and cutting edge communication technologies.

Video: MINI presents New Range at Detroit Motor Show

MINI presents its new range with the new MINI Cooper, Cooper S but also a new variant of the MINI Convertible with the new MINI Convertible Sidewalk. Since the launch of the MINI Convertible, 26,000 units have been sold in the US, making it the largest market for MINI, apart from Great Britain. The MINI Convertible Sidewalk will be available from mid-April. During the sixth year of the model cycle of the MINI Cooper, demand for the MINI remained as strong as in the years before with a total of 39,000 MINI vehicles delivered to American customers, 52 per cent of which were MINI Cooper S models. This gives The US the potential to become MINI’s strongest global retail market. The new vehicle will arrive at MINI showrooms, February 17th in the United States.

General Motors is combining two market segments into one with its all-new 2008 Cadillac CTS. The luxury sports sedan was recently unveiled during the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The vehicle delivers an estimated 300 horsepower and includes a number of luxury features such as an integrated MP3 and surround sound system. Other amenities include a DVD-based navigation with telescoping touch-screen and an exterior that has been extended by two inches.

As automakers look to curb fuel consumption, the North American International Auto Show saw the unveiling of a new electric-powered concept car by General Motors (GM) - Chevy Volt. The Chevy Volt is a battery-powered electric vehicle that uses a gas engine to create additional electricity. The Volt can also run on E85 to deliver 150 miles-per-gallon (mpg). During the show, GM also introduced a new family of propulsion systems - the E-flex System - which is a series of vehicles that will produce energy from gasoline, ethanol, bio-diesel or hydrogen. The Volt is the first vehicle in the E-flex system.

The BMW Group introduces the new Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupé, a hand built two-door, four-seat convertible at the Detroit Motor Show. This car offers a less formal interpretation of the classic Rolls-Royce design. Powered by the same 6.75 litre naturally aspirated V12 engine found in the Phantom saloon, it gives the Phantom Drophead Coupé a 0-60mph time of 5.7 seconds. The first customer cars are expected to be delivered in the summer.
