GM Hy-Wire automobile (video)

Looks good, operates at decent speeds (no autobahn in the US...) and seems to really make sense. If the "sketeboard" design on which this car is designed is easy to manufacture, it would be fairly easy to change cabins from sedan to coupe, to people carrier, etc. Plus, while 0-60 in 16 seconds is not fast, why does the acceleration need to be blisteringly fast? I mean, how much more fuel is consumed when we mash the accelerator to the floor to get up to speed faster? Sensible acceleration and sustainable MPG makes more sense in the long run!

Good work GM... now when can I buy one?

I will admit to enjoying fast acceleration, but I also drive a VW Bug, which is anything but fast. I'm not sure how to get to MPG from 5,000psi x3. Do we have any way to get a fix on how much fuel it takes to produce the hydrogen that will go in the tanks (and how much that fuel will cost)? Do we know how big the tanks are??? I just see the pressure up above.

I'm excited to see where this technology leads though.

I think it is about time GM put out an actual product because for years now they have been talking about they are working on this and that and massive amount of money has been put into this project, both private money and government money. I truly believe this could be the answer to our addiction to foreign oil. Yes, it is a bit on the slow side and it's mileage is limited, but think about this, if everyone use this type of car to commute to work Monday thru Friday, and drive their "fun" car on the weekend...how big of a difference we would make. Way to go GM, and keep up the good work so us consumers can get a relieve soon....

I think what we are looking at here is freakin awesome. Ok, so the speed issue. Does anyone know what the 0-62mph numbers where on the first Ford Model-Ts where? Well it was non-existant. The top speed was 45mph. My point is, being the first car of this design, i'd say we are off to a good start with a 16 second 0-62

1900kg is very heavy.. A little work on this and the performance and economy will bacome a little more interesting. With modern materials they should be able to shave off a third of it...

0-60 in 16 seconds...YEAH! Have fun getting plastered in the pavement when trying to merge onto the freeway!! Good luck on I696...Before GM puts out a video, they oughta get their heads outta their butts and...oh, I don't know...say put in an acceleration battery pack that charges while driving and is used for better performance.

But heck...I used to work for Delphi (GM Junior...)(Now in bankrupt) and the F***ing losers that run that company will NEVER get this thing to market until 10 years after the Japanese do it. And they'll CLAIM it's just because they want to make sure the bugs have been worked out (their excuse for NO hybrid yet...) Uh...Has anyone EVER driven a GM vehicle with all the bugs worked out??? Tthe company is going under because they can make cute prototype videos, but never PRODUCE!!!!! Screw GM.

Hey deutsche bag(sleepyD)...it's funny how you're speaking; it reminds me of something? Oh yeah, an ignorant degenerate. First off your facts aren't straight and I'm not here to educate because you're most likely not here to learn/listen to anyone. But I'll throw some things your way: About Hybrids...GM actually has several hybrid propulsion sytems; I admit only 2 models are available at the moment but by the 3rd quarter of 2007 there will be 4 more. And the last point is: I apologize that your mother's a slut and working 8 mile in hopes off a nice bit of crack.

If it eliminates our dependency on crude oil i say we produce these babies and work on the horsepower later...lets get it out there!!!

Isn't this a car from like 3 generations ago (several years)? Their new one (correct me if I'm wrong) is called Sequel and the specs are nearly double of its parents (hy-wire, autonomy).
