Triumph for Bugatti Veyron

This is definitely impressive for a car that size.

Keep in mind though, the Ultima GTR holds the current record of 0-100-0mph, clocking in at 9.4 seconds.

(although, I'm not sure if the Ultima GTR qualifies as a 'production' car, as the 8.4 second A1 GP car defniitely isn't.. hmm.)

you're right

60mph in 2.8sec! wow!

Personally I'd rather have the Atom! In all Top Gears (UK Motoring tv show) the Atom 300 came second fastest on their "Power Lap", only beaten by a Ferrari Enzo, which is about 10 times the price! It also looks a lot more fun then being encased in a metal box ;-), I've only ever been lucky enough to see one on the road (I usually see various expensive cars as I work around central london, saw a Merc-McLaren SLR the other day!) and I was so shocked I missed my exit on the roundabout

Actually the Enzo is #4 with the Atom at #5 at the time of this comment:

If it went 0-100 in 5.5 and 100-0 in 3.4 (as stated above), didn't it do 0-100-0 in 8.9, rather than 9.9???

Yay Chuck - I want that explained!

Why have an Atom, which encorporates the worst parts of both vehicles, when you can buy a Suzuki GSXR1000 for less than 10k, and have the 3rd fastest vehicle in that list?

The Atom has no roof, so it's no good for rainy conditions - something you'll agree bikes have trouble with too (but bikers aren't ponces like Atom owners). But the bike excels in other area such as heavy traffic riding, cost, maintenance.

Clearly the sensible person's option is the GSXR.

I think the difference in the time is the "time it takes in the trasistion from acceloration to brakes" depending on how fast the car is accelerating at that point you have to get foot of and onto brake peddle.
And the GSXR is not really the sensible option considering how hard it would be to get that performance our of a bike like that. You would have to be a pro to do that.

Why are all of the top cars all "specials" that I can't just go into a local dealer and buy, but the only bike is a standard production model that I _can_ go and buy the nearby Suzuki dealers demo machine this lunchtime, and ride it home this evening if I so choose?

Perhaps now the bike's run of victories over the just-about road-legal cars is over, Autocar will source a Ducati Desmosedici or a World Superbikes machine for next years test.

I wonder where my '06 Ninja 636 would stack up.. Anyone got a stopwatch??!!
Posted by coolridesguy (2 years 6 months ago)
Keep in mind that that the weighs over 4000 pounds, and let's not forget all the luxury amenities. If Bugatti had done anything to keep the weight lower, say, around 3000 pounds, or less, i'd bet that it would go to 60 around the mid to late 1 second mark. Amazing.
Posted by coolridesguy (2 years 6 months ago)
BTW, yes, I do have a stopwatch
Posted by flange (2 years 6 months ago)
coolridesguy... it wouldnt do 60 in 1 second as it wouldnt have the traction!

No, basically physics comes into play when your talking beating 2.5 seconds to 60, give the Veyron another 500HP, and i dont think you`ll see that time beaten. The boost would be more apparent everywhere else though/.

Just get the suzuki and mod it for 2K and it will beat the 5 million pound Veyron. They may sell it for £800000 but its cost them 5m to build. My gsxr does 4.8 0-100 mph and its worth 5K. The problem with the bike is suzuki restricts full power (de-limiter required), and you cannot get all the power down in the bike. If you could just open full throttle and go no car would get near it. I cannot even open 30% throttle in 1st without going sky bound. New Busa next year will end the cars superiority.

Ultima GTR is a production car, put it this way if i turned up at the factory with around 70k and said id like one of those here is some money theyd build me one, on their production line (ok so its only 4 cars long and id have to wait a while but!)
the thin that gets me is ultima set a time nearly 2 years ago (i think it was, deffinately more than 1 year ago) of 9.9 but no one seemed to notice, bring on the caparo T1

a bike is always going to win in a strait line, as it weighs nothing, put a gsxr1000 on a track and the atom would win hands down (would take the p!ss if it had the track spoiler and wing on)
for me its always going to be a car, ive riden many bikes too, from r6's and sv 650's to CBR1000 and zx10r - bikes are cheap for the performance, but your skimping on safety, if i hit a wall at 50 in my lotus elise, ill live to tell the take - even prob walk away. on my r6 id be very lucky to survive.

as a fun after thought
i recon if u built a Caterpillar tracked vehicle out of carbon fibre and titanuim, with a cyramic engine give 1000bhp/tonne you could hit 100mph in bout 4 sec (due to fact you can put full power down with absolutely no loss of traction) and stop in bout 1 so around 5-6sec 0-100-0 its all in the traction (a standard scorpion tank (8 tonnes) can brake from 80kph in the length of its tracks!)

This car is amazing!!!!
