Volkswagen Transporter T6.1 named Medium Van of the Year
It is the second year in a row that the Transporter has won both awards, highlighting its status as the top choice for van drivers.
The Transporter, which celebrated its 70th anniversary this year, was crowned Used Van of the Year for 2021 and commended for its outstanding reliability and exceptional residual value.
The new Transporter T6.1 fought off tough competition to scoop its second consecutive Medium Van of the Year title. The new panel van was praised for its refreshed design as well its reliability and comfort.
The What Van? Awards are widely regarded as one of the UK’s most distinguished accolades for the light commercial vehicle industry. The judging panel is made up of a selection of industry experts who use their invaluable experience to decide the nominees across eight different manufacturer categories.
James Dallas, Editor of What Van?, commented: “We are delighted to be hosting the first virtual What Van? Awards this year, acknowledging the best vans in the industry in each of our eight categories across the sector. Now also available as the electric ABT e-Transporter, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ legendary van continues to set the benchmark for quality, reliability, and practicality in the most popular market sector. A new interior and the introduction of electromechanical power steering have further improved the T6.1 version.
The Transporter T6.1, launched earlier this year, has a redesigned front end and interior, total connectivity, and more space than ever before. It continues in the footsteps of the iconic Transporter, which has built an illustrious reputation for reliability and quality since the first model rolled off the production line in 1950.
Kate Thompson, Head of Marketing at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, said: “We are thrilled to have won these awards for the second year in a row. To triumph again at these distinguished awards is a clear demonstration of the timeless qualities and undeniably strong reputation that the Transporter possesses.”
