Car buyers now have the opportunity to nominate the upcoming model they are most excited to see in showrooms, as voting for the 2021 What Car? Reader Award sponsored by ALA Insurance is now open.

The winner will be announced as part of the 44th What Car? Car of the Year Awards in January.

The shortlist for the 2021 Reader Award has been drawn up by the experts at What Car? and includes models from a diverse group of vehicle classes. They range from small hatchbacks to large SUVs, and include six pure electric vehicles (EVs), the largest number to date.

EVs have a strong track record in the Reader Award, with the Jaguar I-Pace winning it in 2018 and the Honda E in 2019, although last year’s landslide winner was the Land Rover Defender.

SUVs feature prominently again in the 2021 shortlist, with the Alfa Romeo Tonale, Nissan Qashqai, Renault Arkana, Range Rover and Toyota Yaris Cross all among the contenders, while electric SUVs include the Audi Q4 e-tron, Ioniq 5, Tesla Model Y and Volkswagen ID.4.

The other electric contenders are the BMW i4 saloon and Cupra el-Born hatchback. Meanwhile, all-new versions of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Skoda Fabia and Vauxhall Astra complete the line-up.

Readers can vote for the model they’re most excited about by visiting www.wcreaderaward.com from now until Monday 14 December 2020 at 17:00 GMT.
